TORONTO, Dec 15 (LSN) The Ontario Ministry of Education has ordered Canada Christian College (CCC), a Bible College and School of Graduate Theological Studies operating for over 25 years, to “immediately cease and desist all activities in Ontario.” The order to close came with no explanation whatsoever. In a press release issued today, the Canadian Family Action Coalition explained that the College gained the Ontario Education Ministry’s attention when it applied for degree-granting status in Ontario. It had been operating to this point under a Manitoba charter without harassment from the Ministry. In fact, according to CFAC, Premier Harris gave them glowing accolades just a few months ago at graduation ceremonies. The ministry invited the College to apply for Ontario credentials, an exercise which cost over $40,000. Ministry bureaucrats who audited the College stated on Sept. 24th that “the College is well within the standards for theological degree institutions.” CFAC also reports that even the Premier wrote to the College earlier this year saying “I applaud (the College’s) important work and their dedication to excellence.” The Ministry claims that the decision to withhold approval for CCC to grant degrees is due to imminent plans to implement a new academic appraisal policy for degree granting institutions. Charging religious discrimination, CFAC argues that it is a huge leap forward to try to shut down an institution caught in the middle of such a process. Canada Family Action Coalition request its supporters to pressure the Ministry of Education to revoke its “cease and desist” order, and to give the College the degree-granting privileges it is entitled to under the law.
