COLLINGWOOD, Ont., Feb 26 (LSN) – Ontario Conservatives began a caucus meeting Wednesday wherein some backbench MPP’s raised the abortion issue. As reported on Tuesday,  Tory MPP Frank Klees called for his party to focus more on the conservative social policies now that the fiscal policies are mostly dealt with.  Suggestions by Klees would require doctors to inform the parents of girls under 16 before committing an abortion. He also advocates conscience legislation that would permit health care workers to refuse to take part in abortion because of religious or moral objections without being punished.  However, there is a concern among some members of the Tory caucus that the suggestions will go nowhere.  Some suggest that Harris’s moves are dictated by his “group of seven”, —a group of advisors responsible for the Common Sense Revolution—rather than his elected colleagues.  One of Harris’ former top advisors, and member of the ‘group of seven’ was Jaime Watt, a self-proclaimed homosexual. Watt eventually resigned from his advising post when his criminal past came to the fore (he was convicted of fraud of over $19,000). Interestingly, the Toronto Star revealed that the Harris government tried to quietly re-hire Watt but when their maneuvers were discovered Watt resigned for a second time.
