19-year-old Sam Oosterhoff, now the youngest MPP in Ontario history

TORONTO, November 29, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Sam Oosterhoff may be the youngest MPP in Ontario history, but he’s not letting age stop him from making a big splash, even before he formally takes his seat.

Ontario’s legislature unanimously passed a radical bill today redefining the parent-child relationship at the behest of the LGBT lobby. The vote was 79-0.

Under pressure from leader Patrick Brown, any Progressive Conservatives who opposed it did not show up for the vote.

But 19-year-old Oosterhoff, who will be sworn in Wednesday morning, bucked the trend in an interview with the Toronto Star.

Bill 28 is a “horrible piece of legislation” and he “would definitely not have supported” it.

The All Families Are Equal Act legally redefines “mother” and “father” as “parent” to accommodate homosexual couples who conceive children through reproductive means.

The teen is concerned in particular that the bill “can lead to litigation on the child,” citing the fact that it would allow a child to have as many four legal parents who could end up battling it out for custody.

“The reality is we made a very common sense, very practical proposed amendment at the committee stage which was shut down by the Liberals. I think it just goes to show how out of touch they are with people,” he said.

PC MPP Mike Harris had proposed an amendment November 1 that Bill 28 allow “mother” and “father” as well as “parent,” in state-registered documents, but that amendment was voted down. Harris was not present for the final vote.

Pro-family groups have strongly criticized the Liberal government over the bill.

Bill 28 “completely turns on its head the former understanding of ‘family’ which consisted of individuals united by marriage, blood and adoption,” noted Gwen Landolt of REAL Women in an October 16 critique.

“It gets rid of 'mother' and 'father' in family law — mum entirely — to allow for a purely contractual relationship between up to four adult parents, and the children that are legally identified as theirs,” noted Dr. Scott Masson in an analysis of the bill.

He warned the bill is a threat to family and parental rights.

“According to this Bill 28, this new legal ‘family’ can only exist if the traditional, natural family unit is destroyed,” Masson pointed out.

“In the process, it also makes it far easier for the government to seize our children because henceforth we too will only have a contractual — not a natural — bond to our children. As we know, contractual relationships are easy to change.”

Campaign Life Coalition vice president Jeff Gunnarson slammed Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal government for “ramming through another controversial bit of social engineering with Bill 28.”

“This bill is another example of Wynne’s attempts to radically alter the definition of family and sexual morality,” he said, noting that “Bill 28 will normalize a variety of relationships without any regard for the well-being of the children.”
