April 2, 2014 (Ohio Right to Life) – Today, Ohio Right to Life issued a letter to Governor John Kasich requesting his administration to investigate the recent death of Lakisha Wilson, a 22-year-old patient at Preterm Abortion Clinic in Cleveland.

“The death of this young woman is another sobering reminder that Ohio needs to enforce laws that hold abortion clinics accountable to health and safety standards,” said Mike Gonidakis, President of Ohio Right to Life. “Not only is the abortion industry disproportionately aborting African American babies, the industry's apparent carelessness is now taking the lives of Ohio's young African American women.”

According to reports, Lakisha Wilson was rushed to the emergency room after becoming unresponsive at Preterm. Ms. Wilson passed away on Friday, March 28 after being sustained by life-support for a week. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office released the following statement: “Decedent was conveyed from 12000 Shaker Blvd., in Cleveland to University Hospitals Case Medical Center and arrived on 3-21-14 where she was treated, expired and was pronounced on 3-28-14.”

This is not the first time that Preterm Abortion Clinic has had their health and safety protocols called into question. Preterm Abortion Clinic has notified the State Medical Board of Ohio of performing six botched chemical abortions involving RU-486 between 2011 and 2013. (See report.)

“The abortion industry touts the myth that abortion is 'safe,' yet botched chemical abortions and tragedies like Ms. Wilson's are not necessarily the exception,” continued Gonidakis. “We grieve for this young woman and her family, and we will do everything we can to see that justice is served and that Preterm Abortion Clinic is held accountable. Additionally, we would like to thank the local pro-life chapters and organizations for shedding light on this tragic incident and not letting it go unnoticed.”
