OTTAWA, May 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Ottawa Archbishop Marcel Gervais has put out a letter in support for the 2001 March for Life. In his letter, the archbishop welcomes “all Catholics and people of good will who call for an end to discrimination” to “join others from across the nation on Parliament Hill to stand for the sanctity of all human life.”

Picking up on the theme for this year’s March – “No to Discrimination” – Archbishop Gervais says, “Discrimination is also practiced by people who uphold the archaic view that children in the womb are not human beings, and who destroy these children before they are born, before they are ever seen in the world.” He noted particularly that this deadly discrimination is focused “against female children who are not wanted because they are of ‘the wrong sex’” and “against children with Down’s Syndrome who are labelled second class humans and against other children with disabilities who are considered imperfect.”
