February 23, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Monday, Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) submitted the names of over 3,200 individuals who had signed on to a petition in support of a pro-life ad that had been pulled from the airwaves by Global TV.

The ad had been set to air earlier this month on Global affiliate station CHBC, in British Columbia. It was being sponsored by Kelowna Right to Life.

The ad, designed by Priests for Life, New York, begins with the slogan, “All those against abortion, raise your hand,” and then depicts an adult hand holding the hand of a baby killed by abortion.

Originally CHBC agreed to run the spot, after it was approved for airing by the Television Bureau (TVB) of Canada. But then, on Thursday, February 4, the station announced – apparently under the influence of its parent station, Global TV – that it had changed its mind, and would no longer run the spot, saying it was too “graphic.”

“At least 3200 Canadians do not believe the spot is too ‘graphic,’” said CLC President Jim Hughes. “We hope that the higher-ups at Global will listen to these concerned pro-life citizens, and stop the censorship that prevents the truth about abortion from being shown to the public.”

“As we’ve said before, what this ad shows is no more graphic than what is aired nightly on the 6 o’clock news,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, the national coordinator for CLC. “But what is different about this ad, is that the violence that it depicts is not only tolerated in our country, but is funded with our taxpayer dollars.

“No wonder pro-aborts are so determined to make sure that this ad isn’t shown!”

CLC said that the online petition would continue to be available for pro-lifers who would like to sign it, and that additional names would be submitted to the television station as they came in.
