VANCOUVER, Oct 20 (LSN.ca) – An Internet poll on the morning-after pill being distributed in Vancouver is being taken by the Vancouver Sun. The Question: “Do you think the morning-after pill should be available as over-the-counter medication?” The results as of 1:30 pm today: 494 (60%) Yes 309 (38%) No 18 (2%) Not sure. The results were a shock to pharmacist Mike Izzoti who told LifeSite that a recent poll of pharmacists on the same issue revealed very different results. A poll conducted in the Pharmacy Practice journal asking if pharmacists should prescribe “emergency contraception” (directly without a doctors prescription) showed that 61% of pharmacists said no while 35% said yes (Pharmacy Practice Aug 2000). Izzoti said the differing results reveal that the public “is poorly informed on the danger of this toxic drug which ends the life of a human being.” He concluded: “Pharmacists are responsible for informing people on the actions of drugs and thus we must inform the public about the medical concerns of these drugs.”
