PRETORIA, March 3, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Officials in the Palestinian Authority, which has been self-governing in domestic affairs since the 1994 Oslo Accords, are finding a model in the South African constitution – one of the world’s first charters to explicitly guarantee abortion as a right.  Palestinian Planning Minister Nabil Shaath is in Pretoria for meetings. “The Palestinian Authority, which views the South African constitution-making process as a model, approached President Thabo Mbeki and the South African government to assist … by sharing experiences and expertise in drafting and developing a democratic constitution,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa.  The 1996 constitution of South Africa is seen as a worldwide model for social progressives. Section 12, paragraph 2 guarantees the right to make decisions concerning reproduction and to security in and control over one’s body. Section 27, para. 1 guarantees the right to “health care services, including reproductive health care.”  To view the South Africa constitution https://www.polity.org.za/html/govdocs/bills/sacon96.html?rebookmark=1   For newswire coverage:  https://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030302/ap_wo_en_po/af_gen_south_africa_palestinians_1
