WASHINGTON, D.C., January 5, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-WI, said today that an upcoming budget bill designed to fast-track Republicans' Obamacare repeal efforts will also be used to defund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood's funding will be reallocated to comprehensive health care centers.

The Planned Parenthood defunding measure will be attached to what is known as a budget reconciliation bill, which is a way for the House to pass a federal budget while bypassing a Senate filibuster and limiting the amount of time the bill can be debated. If the reconciliation bill passes the House and a simple majority in the Senate, it will go to the president's desk for him to sign.

upcoming budget reconciliation legislation will include a provision to reallocate taxpayer funding away from Planned Parenthood to comprehensive health care centers.

“Planned Parenthood legislation would be in our reconciliation bill,” Ryan said in response to a question about how and when Congress will defund Planned Parenthood.

A reconciliation bill would likely be able to make it through the narrowly-controlled pro-life Senate more easily than a regular bill.

Planned Parenthood commits over 300,000 abortions per year and receives $553.7 million from U.S. taxpayers. It claims abortion is only three percent of its services, but doesn't advertise the fact, admitted in its own annual report, that 94 percent of their pregnancy-related services are abortion.

“Today’s commitment by Speaker Ryan to re-direct the abortion giant’s taxpayer funding to community health centers is a victory for women’s health care,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List. “Community health centers provide far more services than Planned Parenthood and outnumber them 20 to 1 nationwide. We commend Speaker Paul Ryan on his continued resolve to fund women’s health care, not abortion. His pro-life, pro-woman resolve is shared by Majority Leader McConnell and President-elect Trump, and we are confident Congress will get this important legislation to the President's desk for his signature after the inauguration.”

Planned Parenthood Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens tweeted that Ryan's announcement means “the fight is on.”

“Polling in 2018 Senate battleground states shows that voters support re-directing Planned Parenthood’s funding to community health centers,” Dannenfelser noted. “Vulnerable pro-abortion Democratic Senators need to do a serious gut check, especially following the 2016 election outcome, and decide if they will stand with their constituents and women’s health care or continue to funnel money to big abortion.”

One of President-elect Trump's promises to the pro-life movement was that he would defund Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to abort babies. Such funding would be reallocated to “community health centers that provide comprehensive health care for women,” he said.
