Pedophile Voices Support for Canada’s Proposed Child Protection Bill

OTTAWA, February 27, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Comments by notorious pedophile John Robin Sharpe praising the Liberal child protection Bill C-12, further validate Conservative opposition to the bill according to Conservative Justice Critic Vic Toews.  Instead of raising the age of consent for adult-child sexual contact from 14, one of the lowest ages of consent in the western world, to 16, C-12 creates the category of “exploitative relationships”, which is “a vague provision that will not serve as a real deterrent and will simply result in longer trials and more litigation,” according to Toews.  “We have already been told by child advocates and front line police officers that this bill will not be effective in protecting children.  Now that a convicted pedophile is telling the Liberals their bill will help predators more than it will help children, will they now finally make the necessary amendments that we have been calling for?” asked Conservative Justice Critic Vic Toews.  John Robin Sharpe made several disturbing comments on his web page, saying that the bill could help pedophiles be acquitted and could convince society to become more “tolerant” of pedophilia. He states: “The interesting thing about the child sex law changes is that they may offer some unintended opportunities for the defence.  The fact that the bill’s proposals allow the nature of relationships to be publicly explored could help some defendants challenge the simplistic myths people believe about boylovers…this is a radical precedent in criminal law.”  Toews concluded, “This is just one more Chrétien-era bill that Paul Martin has recycled without any real consideration of the consequences.  It’s time for this Liberal government to put it in the trash bin and rewrite the legislation to give children the legal protection they need.”
