WASHINGTON, D.C., October 7, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry on Friday pledged his support for human life in the womb, “regardless of the circumstance,” a possible reference to lingering questions about whether the Texas governor supports abortion in cases of rape and incest.

“In America, it’s not where you come from that matters, it’s where you’re going,” added Perry, who expanded on his pro-life stance as one of principle.

“For some candidates, pro-life is an election year slogan .. to me, it’s about the absolute principle that every human being is entitled to life,” he said. “All human life is made in the image of our Creator.”

The candidate, who touted the de-funding of Planned Parenthood in the Texas state budget that he signed in July, said that family values is central to the survival of the country.

“The demise of the family is the demise of any great society,” said Perry.
