TORONTO, October 12, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Responding to Wednesday’s bombshell by the Ontario Liberal Minister of Education proclaiming that the recently passed Bill 13 forbids Catholic schools from teaching against abortion, Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) has launched a petition demanding the Minister’s resignation and the rescindment of Bill 13.
The petition calls “upon the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and all Party leaders to protect religious freedom by forcing Minister Broten’s resignation and by rescinding Bill 13 in its entirety, lest it remain a lingering threat to our most fundamental freedom.”
On Wednesday, Education Minister Laurel Broten said: “We do not allow and we’re very clear with the passage of Bill 13 that Catholic teachings cannot be taught in our schools that violates human rights … Bill 13 is about tackling misogyny, taking away a woman’s right to choose could arguably be one of the most misogynistic actions that one could take.”
Describing Broten’s order as an unprecedented “assault on religious freedom” CLC President Jim Hughes reached out to his supporters for assistance in mounting an offensive to get the Liberal Government to back off.
“We jumped into action immediately. We contacted all Ontario bishops, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the nuncio to offer assistance,” wrote Hughes in a letter to supporters today.

Hughes ends his plea for support saying, “However, without you we can do nothing. Pray, fast, give generously and take action! That is the formula for success.”
