MONTREAL, Sept 29 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Campaign Life Coalition issued a press release today regarding yesterday’s death of former Prime Minister Trudeau. The release noted that “in 1969, Pierre Elliot Trudeau’s Omnibus Bill opened the floodgate to widespread abortion. The toll has reached more than 2 million dead babies and counting.” LifeSite has also learned that on French CBC TV it was reported that two weeks ago Mr. Trudeau sought a priest and was given last rights including confession. In the CLC press release Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition said, “May God have mercy on his soul”. A grand state funeral is being planned for Tuesday in Montreal at Notre Dame Basilica.

Although recalled fondly by many Canadians, pro-life and pro-family citizens recall sadly his relationship with abortionist Henry Morgentaler, of whom Trudeau said, “my friend and fellow humanist, Henry Morgentaler.” His 1969 legislation which legalized abortion and homosexuality and greatly liberalized divorce laws, and the Charter of Rights brought in under his leadership, revolutionized Canadian society in a profoundly anti-life, anti-family direction. The Charter transferred power from legislatures to the courts and has been consistently exploited by special interest groups to impose unpopular, radical social law changes on Canadians. From the Trudeau era onwards Canada has consistently been a world leader in promoting and attempting to impose a similar social revolution upon other nations.

Trudeau was a New Democratic Party socialist before switching to the Liberals in the 60s as the practical way to power. He was a strong admirer of Communist dictators Mao Tse Tung of China and Fidel Castro of Cuba and led a delegation of Communists to Moscow in 1952.

Although no mention is made of it, Trudeau was one of the first politicians ever to grant monies to homosexual activist groups. He gave $60,000 to the Canadian Homophile Association of Toronto.
