Planned Parenthood advertises itself as a ‘safe haven’ for babies
BURLINGTON, VT, June 1, 2015 (LifeSiteNews.com) -- As ironic as it may sound, Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion business, is advertising itself as a "safe haven" for babies.
Vermont’s Baby Safe Haven Law “offers you safe places you can give up your baby – anonymously and legally.”
"Safe haven” is defined as any “fire or police station, health care facility, place of worship [or] adoption agency licensed in Vermont.” Parents may deliver a child younger than 30 days old to any “safe haven” in the state, no questions asked.
That includes Planned Parenthood.
A Planned Parenthood ad in New England states: “Rather than abandoning your newborn, you can bring your baby to a safe place where he or she will be cared for. All Planned Parenthood health centers in Vermont are safe places to bring an infant up to 30 days old. And you won’t face any legal charges if your baby has not been abused or neglected. We can help you with medical care, counseling referrals and more.”
Pro-life speaker Monica Kelsey, who was safely abandoned at a hospital in Indiana in 1973, posted a picture of the Planned Parenthood ad on her Facebook page asking, “Say What?”
“Are they serious??" Kelsey commented. "I called and asked to make sure and – yep, you can relinquish your child at Planned Parenthood a few minutes after it was legal for them to rip the child apart through abortion.”
A spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood of Northern New England confirmed to The Daily Signal that Planned Parenthood abortion facilities in Vermont have been approved by the state as a safe haven for newborns up to 30 days old.
Safe Havens are an alternative to the lethal neglect and abandonment of babies, and save lives. Emergency responders can also make arrangements to come pick up a child after a 911 call.
The person who leaves a child at a safe haven may do so anonymously, but they are given the option to provide personal or medical information about the child. They are also offered medical help and/or counseling, if they so choose.
Many pro-life advocates strongly support Safe Haven laws. But with abortion as its top-grossing "service," Planned Parenthood is not a "safe haven" for any preborn baby. The pro-abortion giant – which takes the lives of over a third of a million American babies each year – favors late-term abortions up to the moment of birth.
Not only does Planned Parenthood refuse to protect infants born alive at their abortion facilities, withholding basic medical care from a living child, but a Florida Planned Parenthood lobbyist has advocated in favor of infanticide.
Critics often call the organization "Planned Barrenhood," because some women have become sterile after Planned Parenthood abortions, destroying all hope of a future, “wanted” pregnancy.
Yet under Vermont law, it is holding itself out as a safe place for newborn babies and their mothers.
Dave Andrusko of National Right to Life News commented, "Why should it surprise you that Planned Parenthood, which corrupts everything it touches, also leads the galaxy in hypocrisy?"
