BINGHAMPTON, NY, November 30, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Five clinics in New York state are cutting ties with the nation’s largest abortion provider rather than follow an order that all Planned Parenthood affiliates must perform abortions on-site.

Planned Parenthood of South Central New York has locations in five cities, none of which perform abortions. That now violates the national organization’s rules.

In late 2010, Planned Parenthood issued a new requirement that all affiliates must provide on-site abortion inside at least one of their locations.

Starting in 2013 PPSCNY will be known as Family Planning of South Central New York. However, PPSCNY will continue to refer women to facilities that perform abortions.

“We remain totally committed to women’s reproductive choice,” said CEO Debra Marcus. “If we provided abortions, however, we would be duplicating services already provided in our community.”

“When an affiliate like this disaffiliates from Planned Parenthood they really suffer, because it cuts them off from all the volume discounts and special pricing that they get by being a Planned Parenthood affiliate, so this is not a decision that any affiliate takes lightly,” Jim Sedlak, vice president of the American Life League, told LifeSiteNews.com.

“The fact that they would do this – take five clinics out of the Planned Parenthood empire – shows how they’re dedicated to not doing abortions, and how dedicated Planned Parenthood is to killing babies in the womb,” Sedlak said.

The move comes as Planned Parenthood has attempted to rebrand itself as a women’s health care provider, distancing itself from abortion. The organization recently unveiled a new slogan, “Care. No Matter What.”

The group claims abortion represents only three percent of its services by counting various services a typical abortion client will receive as a separate “service.” Abortion patients represent 12 percent of all their visitors.

“In our estimation over 50 percent of their non-government income from their clinics comes from abortion,” Sedlak told LifeSiteNews.

A Texas Planned Parenthood affiliate broke ties with the national organization in 2011 over the abortion requirement, becoming Family Planning of the Coastal Bend. That organization still promotes contraception to adolescents and holds its “annual condom fashion show.”

“We see this happening all over the country,” former Planned Parenthood manager Abby Johnson told LifeSiteNews by e-mail. “I have been talking about this abortion mandate since I left” the abortion industry.

Johnson now heads And Then There Were None, a group that helps former abortion industry workers leave their jobs.

“Planned Parenthood’s stated mission of providing ‘preventative health services’ is starting to crumble in the public eye,” she said.
