SHELTON, CT, March 27, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Planned Parenthood has closed an office in the town of Shelton, Connecticut.

Officials with Planned Parenthood of Southern New England said their decision to close the facility, which had been in operation since 1988, was a strategic decision to pour resources into its 18 offices statewide.

The business previously offered “abortion referral,” abortifacient “emergency contraception,” and “LGBT services.”

The Planned Parenthood website currently lists “abortion referral” as the facility's only service.

The Shelton site saw 2,200 customers a year and employed four people.

The decision shutters the only Planned Parenthood in the state's Lower Naugatuck Valley.

Connecticut public health officials have decried the closure. Karen Spargo, director of the Naugatuck Valley Health District, called it “a huge loss,” according to the Connecticut Post.

Planned Parenthood announced it was closing two offices in Iowa and four offices in Wisconsin in the month of February. The Wisconsin closures were due to a new law depriving the abortion giant of taxpayer funds.
