Margaret Sanger's original goal for Planned Parenthood was to limit the nation's population of black people, says the father of a prominent senator.

Rafael Cruz, father of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-TX, told the Western Williamson County Republican Club in Texas August 21, “Margaret Sanger was the founder of Planned Parenthood. And you can Google it and look at her written statement. The purpose of creating Planned Parenthood was for population control in the black neighborhoods. Look at where all or most of the abortion clinics are: in the black neighborhoods to control their population.”

“Every black … should be enraged,” he added.

Sanger, who began the Negro Project in 1939 and founded Planned Parenthood as a contraceptive organization, wrote in a letter that “we do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the [black] minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”

Additionally, she was allied with the white supremacist organization KKK, and supported population control for poorer and less intelligent members of society. As the Family Research Council's Arina Grossu noted earlier this year, Sanger also wanted developing nations to not bear children for a decade.
