PINAL COUNTY, AZ, May 8, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Police in Pinal County, Arizona, are investigating a local Planned Parenthood abortion facility for deliberately failing to report the rape of a 15-year-old girl. As a result, they say, accused rapist Tyler Kost, 18, remained free for nearly six months before he was finally apprehended last week.

Kost is accused of violating at least 18 underage girls, some as young as 12. He is being held without bail at the Pinal County Jail on 29 separate charges of sexual abuse of minors, and facing the equivalent of several lifetime sentences.

The 15-year-old girl told detectives that a counselor at the facility knew she was raped but insisted on recording the encounter as consensual in order to avoid the “hassle” of dealing with the authorities.

“The counselor intentionally miscoded the assault as a consensual encounter,” according to a report from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. “The counselor told them that they did not want the hassle of having to report the assault to law enforcement as they were a mandatory reporter.”

Arizona state law requires abortion workers to report all suspected instances of sexual abuse to local law enforcement.

Planned Parenthood Arizona replied with a press statement: “All patients are asked at least two separate times whether they consented to sexual activity; if a patient says she was sexually assaulted or displays signs of assault, our staff is required to report it immediately to law enforcement officials. We have zero tolerance for staff failing to meet our standards and policies.”

The organization said it had requested more information from the Pinal County Sheriff about the case.

“Our research shows that abortionists routinely neglect to report cases of rape,” Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, told LifeSiteNews, calling the lack of accountability “a widespread problem.”

He added, “We know cases where young girls were subjected to needless years of abuse, sometimes resulting in multiple pregnancies.”

“Planned Parenthood is a rapist's best friend,” he said.

This is not the first time Planned Parenthood has been in trouble over allegations of covering up abuse. Pro-life investigative group Live Action did a series of undercover stings in 2007 and 2008 in which workers at Planned Parenthood facilities in multiple states, including Arizona, were caught on tape being told about sexual abuse of minors and doing nothing to follow up.

In some cases, minors were told to lie in order to circumvent parental consent laws, ensuring that their parents would never learn about the abuse.

In 2011, Life Dynamics released recordings of hundreds of phone calls in which abortion workers can be heard advising young girls to lie about their age so they would not have to report child sex abuse.

In addition to these cases Newman, whose organization makes a thorough investigation of the abortion industry, said there is also “a huge but little-known problem with sex abuse and harassment inside the abortion clinics themselves, where vulnerable women are shamefully betrayed by those 'doctors' in whom they have misplaced their trust. “

“Those responsible for these unspeakable crimes must be fully prosecuted in order to protect women — especially under-aged girls — from further harm and exploitation,” he said.
