ATLANTA, June 4, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Planned Parenthood has been closely identified with the Democratic Party for some time, but now the nation's leading abortion provider will have one of its own as chairman of the Georgia Democratic Party.
State Chairman Mike Berlon announced last week that he will vacate his post this Saturday, following a series of personal scandals.
Vice Chair Nikema Williams, director of public policy for Planned Parenthood Southeast Inc. (PPSE), will helm the party until a permanent replacement can be found.
Her biography notes she and her husband, Mr. Leslie Smalls, “are members of Central United Methodist Church.”
Planned Parenthood has had close ties with the Democratic Party for decades, culminating in the 2012 presidential election, when the national organization spent $15 million to elect Barack Obama, and Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards campaigned door-to-door on election day.
Richards made a brief post-election pitch for Republican support, which praised the “family planning” views of Richard Nixon. Williams' move is a return to form.

Williams will have her work cut out changing Georgia voters' minds on politics or abortion.
Americans United for Life lists Georgia as one of its five “all-star” states that significantly increased their protection of the unborn in law. Georgia is one of the AUL's top ten pro-life states.
The state's governor, Nathan Deal, and legislative leaders are overwhelmingly Republican.
