PLANNED PARENTHOOD REPORTS 80 ABORTIONS FOR EVERY 1 ADOPTION REFERRAL

NEW YORK, May 8, 2002 (LSN.ca) – Planned Parenthood Federation of America performed 79.3 abortions for every referral it made for adoption in 2000, according to its latest fact sheet.  Over 98 percent of women who sought Planned Parenthood counsel opted for abortion, PPFA says, leading to 197,070 abortions. However, adoption referrals declined for the fourth consecutive year, from 9,200 in 1997 to 2,486 in 2000.  Founded by Margaret Sanger (1879-1966) to promote contraception, the organization’s abortion network now yields revenues estimated in the tens of millions of dollars.  A CNSNews.com staffer contacted a PPFA clinic and was told that the minimum charge for an abortion is $300. According to Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C., the price for aborting a fetus at 12 weeks or under is $325 and increases with age.  Using a conservative average cost of $350 per abortion, CNSNews estimates that PPFA raked in $69 million from abortions in 2000.
