WASHINGTON, Feb 4 (LifeSiteNews) – Following in the footsteps of Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II addressed, through his nuncio, the US National Prayer Breakfast this week with a message decrying abortion.  Agence France Press reports that with President Clinton in attendance,  Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo read the papal message saying:  “This question is the oldest issue of protecting every human being in their right to life from conception until their natural death.  “This is the great civil rights issue of our time and the world looks to the United States leadership in cherishing every human life and in providing legal protection for all the members of this human community but especially those who are the weakest and the most vulnerable.”

In 1994 Mother Teresa spoke to the assembled US politicians saying: “But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child – a direct killing of the innocent child – murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion?  Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.”
