VATICAN, June 23, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Addressing Catholic Bishops from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia today, Pope Benedict XVI said that while he would like to speak to them about many things he would limit himself to the very important topic of the family. He noted that the Baltic states suffer “from the plague of the abortion and the demographic crisis” as well as from inadequate formation of children in “authentic values.”

The Pope warned the Bishops that “Modernity that is not rooted in authentic human values is destined to be dominated by the tyranny of instability and loss.”

He thanked the bishops for their efforts and encouraged them never to tire of “being always brave defenders of life and family.”
