OTTAWA, May 8, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pope Francis surprised marchers at Canada’s National March for Life on Parliament Hill Thursday with a message assuring them of his “spiritual closeness” in their efforts.

Cardinal Gerald Lacroix of Quebec City read the message from the pope during his remarks at the rally before the march through the streets of Ottawa.

As he read the message, the cardinal was interrupted by a topless woman who attempted to seize the microphone and shouted, “F*** your morals!” Lacroix paused briefly as she was taken away and then continued reading.

“His Holiness Pope Francis is pleased to greet everyone taking part in the 17th National March for Life,” read the message, written by Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

“He assures them of his spiritual closeness as they give witness to the God-given dignity, beauty, and value of human life,” it continued. “He prays that this event foster greater respect for the inviolable right to life of each person from conception to natural death and support the efforts of all who labor to ensure that this fundamental human right receives adequate legal protection.”

“To the organizers and participants and in particular to those who aid women in crisis pregnancies and their children, the Holy Father cordially imparts his apostolic blessing as a pledge of joy and peace in the risen Lord,” the message concluded.
