FRANKFURT, March 8, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung revealed yesterday that Pope John Paul II gave a direct order to Frankfurt’s Bishop Franz Kamphaus in late February, demanding an end to the handing out of counselling certificates to pregnant women who can use the certificates to obtain abortions. The Limbourg Diocese, which includes Frankfurt, will issue a statement Friday on whether Bishop Kamphaus will resign his bishopric.

Bishop Kamphaus is the only one of the 27 German Catholic Bishops who continues to openly defy the Pope by persisting in offering the certificates. Other German dioceses are offering pro-life counsel to women in crisis pregnancies and also offering them financial support if they choose to allow their children to live.
