VATICAN, November 28, 2001 (LSN.ca) – After his General Audience today, Pope John Paul II personally condemned human therapeutic cloning in an address to a group of doctors. The Vatican condemned the US announcement on Monday.

“True humanism can never permit methods and experiments that constitute threats against life that are programmed in a scientific and systematic manner,” he said. The Pope urged the doctors to “uncompromisingly defend life and the dignity of the human person and work within respect of moral law.”
