Pre-Christmas Fundraiser – Day 1

To all LifeSiteNews Readers,

It’s that time of year again when we must appeal to our readers for financial support. Please read this email and consider how you might be able to help us.

LifeSiteNews is a non-profit service funded mostly by donations. We receive some donations throughout the year but the majority of contributions come in response to these special appeals.

The big news for our US readers is that LifeSiteNews.com is now a registered US non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status which allows us to issue donation tax receipts to US residents.

Unfortunately, Canadian tax laws are very different and we must depend on Canadian supporters to keep the importance of this work, rather than any tax benefit, especially in mind.

The same would apply for our international supporters.

This past September marked our 10th anniversary as a website although News Editor John-Henry Westen was sending out email reports for a couple of years prior to 1997.

A count of our stories since September 1997 shows that 19,034 LifeSiteNews reports on a wide variety of issues are now available online for information and research purposes.

There are substantial expenses involved in producing all those quality daily reports for the past 10 years.

We have two full-time (very, very full time!) paid staff – Editor John-Henry Westen and Managing Director Steve Jalsevac. There is now an urgent need for extra funds for more full-time staff. There is only so much that the current ones can physically do and that point was passed a long time ago.

The current regular part-time writing/research staff are Hilary White in England, Matthew Hoffman in Mexico, Meg Jalsevac in Pittsburgh (runs the US office), John Connolly in Front Royal, Virginia and Ted Baklinski in Ontario. Then, off an on, depending on school breaks, etc. are John Jalsevac who moves between Toronto and Virginia, Peter Smith from Rochester, New York and Virginia and various others who fill in at different times.

LifeSiteNews also employs on an hourly basis, a webmaster, a web designer and a marketing and site development person – all skilled and absolutely essential individuals.

So you see, there are a good number of people required to put out the news every day. And yet, there are still not nearly enough of us to respond to all the email requests and news tip emails and write and research the additional crucial stories that need to be done. We are often quite overwhelmed.

We should emphasize that all our staff are strongly dedicated to the LifeSiteNews philosophy and principles. They see this work as a type of vocation and therefore generously give themselves to it.

Then there are all the webhosting, computer, equipment, software, communications, conference and travel expenses, plus legal and accounting expenses. Whew! Some days we get rather anxious about how all these unavoidable expenses are going to get paid.

Then again, all we can do, as we have done from the beginning, is tell you our need and trust that we will receive what we need if we are meant to continue this work for God’s precious life and family.

PLEASE CONSIDER A GENEROUS DONATION. There are few projects that you can donate to, in our opinion, that will produce such effective results per dollar as LifeSiteNews.

Any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated.

With the new US tax status we are also looking for possible major benefactors to assist in our current development. We have exciting plans but lack the funds. Perhaps some of our readers could contact persons known to them about such funding possibilities.

We close with an email from a reader in Minneapolis sent this past September. No, we did not make this up and we did not ask this person whom we do not know to write this. Actually, we often get these types of emails:

“I just have to tell you that I absolutely love your service. All of it. It is fantastic. Even with the plethora of blogs, online news sites, blah, blah, blah, I don’t think there is actually another service like yours. Even if there were, they wouldn’t have your slant for what matters. You hit it right on the head. I’ve written before to gush, but I just can’t stop. So, please know that I am grateful, from the bottom of my heart. God bless you guys! You really are on the forefront of society, fighting the good fight, not letting go and keeping us soldiers behind you informed of the battle detail. Go LifeSiteNews!”

PLEASE send a donation by mail or online by credit card.
