WASHINGTON, Aug 9, 2001 (LSN.ca) – President Bush has called for 8-10 minutes of airtime on television and radio tonight to announce his decision on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

Judie Brown of American Life League reacted to the announcement saying she is counting on the President to make the right decision and further says that all research involving the destruction of human embryos must be banned entirely.

“Do No Harm” a Coalition of Americans for Research Ethics sent 140,000 petitions to the White House asking President Bush not to have “tax dollars used for research that destroys some human lives for the sake of others.” The petitions asked instead for support for increased funding for adult stem cell research and other morally acceptable alternatives. Another petition drive by the Center for Reclaiming America sent the President nearly 100,000 petitions supporting the ban on federal funds being used to destroy human embryos for research.
