October 28, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Fr. Raymond Gravel, a Catholic priest in the diocese of Joliette Quebec who almost three years ago launched a lawsuit against the Canadian branch of LifeSiteNews.com, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and given six months to live according to Radio Canada, the French branch of the national CBC television network.

The lawsuit launched in Dec. 2010, and a later counter suit by LifeSiteNews.com, continue. To date, the costs to LifeSiteNews (Canada) for its defense against the Gravel legal action, which LSN has stated in court pose a serious threat to Canada’s traditional freedom of the press and freedom of expression, have exceeded $225,000.

According to press reports Fr. Gravel has lung cancer that has spread to the bones.

Rev. Gravel recently made a settlement with the second party named in his lawsuit, a completely separate organization, the Quebec pro-life advocacy group Campagne Quebec Vie (CQV). According to Quebec media, Gravel is claiming victory over the religious right because of the CQV settlement, which LifeSiteNews is not a party to. The CQV remarks about Fr. Gravel were of a different nature than those in the LSN reports.
