OTTAWA, September 9, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Canadians may be facing three of the most controversial pieces of legislation ever presented to parliament this Fall. The Canadian Press reported today that agitators from the Paul Martin camp who would like to see the homosexual ‘marriage’ issue resolved prior to the next election – likely to be next year – have convinced most of the federal cabinet to have a vote on the legislation this Fall. Prime Minister Jean Chretien’s spokesman Jim Munson confirmed that the Prime Minister was considering a Fall vote. “What we’re considering is the points of view of MPs who would like this dealt with directly and who would like this dealt with now,” he said. Ottawa-Vanier MP Mauril Belanger who has been pushing for a Fall vote told the media that he now has the support of most of the cabinet as well as politicians in other parties. “Everything coming at once,” was the reaction of Mary-Ellen Douglas, national organizer for Campaign Life Coalition Canada. She noted that the hate crime legislation Bill C-250 is also set to come up the first week of parliament’s return (Sept 15-19), as well as the embryonic stem cell legislation Bill C-13. Douglas stressed that the most important of the three pieces of legislation was Bill C-13. “While everyone appears to be focusing on the same-sex issue, a bill that is going to see human beings used as experimental animals is the most depraved of all of them.” See the National Post coverage: https://canada.com/national/story.asp?id=BF20A790-F246-4485-95C3-EFAE030E3581
