OTTAWA, June 10, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Ottawa Archbishop Marcel Gervais, the bishop of Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin has requested a phone conversation with the Prime Minister on the Prime Minister’s Catholicism and the election.  Martin, who continues to refer to himself publicly as a Catholic, has – particularly during the current election campaign – pursued a hard-line stand in favour of abortion and homosexual ‘marriage’.  The news comes just after Calgary Bishop Fred Henry sent a pastoral letter to all parishes in his diocese noting that the Prime Minister has with his actions caused “scandal in the Catholic community.”  Gilles Ouellette, spokesman for Ottawa Archbishop Marcel Gervais told LifeSiteNews.com that the Archbishop has called the Prime Minister’s Office to arrange a phone conversation.  While Ouellette did divulge that the conversation would revolve around current election issues and the Prime Minister’s Catholic faith, Ouellette stressed that it would be a private conversation.  Ouellette told LifeSiteNews.com that the Prime Minister’s office was cooperating with the request and are seeking to arrange a phone conversation.  Calls to the Liberal campaign concerning the matter were not returned.  See LifeSiteNews.com’s coverage of Bishop Henry’s letter:  Bishop Challenges fundamental moral incoherence of Canadian Prime Minister Martin https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2004/jun/04060805.html
