MANAGUA, Nicaragua, May 3, 2001 (LSN.ca) – A document which outlines a plot to assassinate Catholic Church and other pro-life leaders in Nicaragua, has prompted Nicaraguan President Arnoldo Aleman to order police to provide special protection for Managua’s Cardinal Miguel Obando and several of the country’s Catholic bishops. The document, allegedly produced by a pro-abortion group and which was given to Cardinal Obando by trustworthy sources, contains a plan to “wipe out” bishops, priests and laymen who are fighting the legalization of abortion in the country.

State-owned Radio Nicaragua reported on the news and quoted Cardinal Obando warning that the document notes the assassination plot could extend to religious and lay leaders of the pro-life movement in other Central American nations.
