OTTAWA, Apr 27 (LSN) – British Columbia Report magazine reported recently on a publication put out by the Canadian Abortion Rights Action League (CARAL), calling for mandatory abortion training for medical students in Canada. The document, “The Status of Abortion Services in Canada: Access Granted, Too Often Denied” was issued in February to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision leaving Canada lawless with regard to abortion.  In the document, CARAL laments the alleged lack of access to abortion, complaining that abortion training is not mandatory but “an elective with no requirement to observe or perform actual procedures.” In response to this “problem,” CARAL calls for mandatory abortion training in medical schools. The group also wants severe penalties for doctors who refuse “to refuse to give a woman information regarding abortion access….Such actions should be considered gross medical misconduct…liable to professional and criminal sanctions.”  Pro-life observers note that CARAL’s plan is yet another reason why a legal “conscience clause” is needed to protect health-care workers from coercion to take part in abortions. The national Coalition for Conscience is currently supporting such legislation in the Senate and in the Ontario legislature, in light of numerous cases of such coercion already taking place across the country.  (source: Pro-Life E-News Canada)
