Pro-gay rapper, dissenters to headline Ontario Catholic Teachers Assoc ‘social justice’ conference
TORONTO, Ontario, June 7, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) is hosting a conference next month featuring three speakers who dissent from Catholic teaching, a conference that they say will “challenge your traditional notions of social justice, aboriginal issues, poverty, unionism, mental health and more”.
The conference’s theme is simply “Re-Think”.
Keynote speakers for the July 4-5 conference include Dr. Samantha Nutt, a medical doctor, humanitarian, and founder of War Child Canada, Wab Kinew, hip-hop artist, host of the CBC-TV series 8th Fire, and Paola Gianturco, an author and photographer who has documented women’s lives in 55 countries.
All three either support or are involved in activist causes that are at variances with Catholic teaching.
Rapper, musician, and CBC journalist Wab Kinew supports the homosexual agenda. During the 2012 U.S. election Kinew tweeted: “Gay marriage looks like it may pass in 4 states: ‘a watershed moment for gay rights’ Bravo”.
In an article last year he called President Obama a “role model” and wondered “how long will it be before we see a Canadian Obama”.
Obama has been dubbed by life and family leaders as the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history. His lengthy record includes supporting abortion-on-demand through all nine months pregnancy and partial-birth abortion.

Author and photographer Paola Gianturco uses her camera to bring awareness to struggles women face in the third world. She says on her website that people can “help solve the problems that plague women and their families everywhere” by supporting groups like The Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
CEDAW is notorious for its abortion militancy. The U.S. Senate heard arguments in 2000 from Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jesse Helms that CEDAW was a “terrible treaty negotiated by radical feminists with the intent of enshrining their radical anti-family agenda into international law”.
“The most affordable, efficient, and transformational way to prevent conflict and human suffering does not lie in swelling military aid and raising defense budgets. It lies in ensuring that women and girls have choices other than subservience and reproductive surrender”.
OECTA emphasizes in its mandate its commitment to “promote the principles of Catholic education, which includes the support of social and economic justice.” The group boasts of its “proud history of involvement in emerging social and economic issues and crisis”.
OECTA has a history of running conferences with speakers who are at odds with Catholic teaching on sexuality, the sacredness of human life, and social justice. Last year OECTA hosted a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered (LGBT) conference with speakers who explicitly supported the gay agenda in Catholic schools.
