August 26, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Pro-life Rep. Sean Duffy, R-WI, announced today he will resign next month in order to focus on his family, particularly his ninth child, who is due in October and “will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition.”
“With much prayer, I have decided that this is the right time for me to take a break from public service in order to be the support my wife, baby and family need right now,” Duffy wrote on Facebook. “It is not an easy decision – because I truly love being your Congressman – but it is the right decision for my family, which is my first love and responsibility.”
“Together, we have engaged in the most important battles of our time: protecting freedom of speech and religious liberty, taking care of our veterans, defending the unborn, and saving American jobs and American capitalism,” Duffy reflected.
The congressman and his wife Rachel Campos-Duffy of Fox News are open about their Catholic faith and the joy of having a large family. In July, Campos-Duffy told National Review reactions to her large family are overwhelmingly positive, save for “misogynistic” comments on political websites.
Duffy has represented Wisconsin’s 7th district since 2011.
In 2017, Duffy earned a 100 percent rating from the Family Research Council Action for voting:
- Against taxpayer funding of abortion;
- To overturn an Obama-era rule that prevented states from redirecting Title X family planning funds away from abortion providers like Planned Parenthood;
- To repeal and replace Obamacare;
- Against forcing taxpayers to fund military transgender surgeries;
- For the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would ban many late-term abortions;
- To repeal Obamacare’s health care-rationing “Independent Payment Advisory Boards”;
- To allow unborn children to qualify for 529 education savings accounts; and
- To increase the Child Tax Credit
Duffy is set to resign on September 23. A special election will need to be called by Wisconsin’s governor, Gov. Tony Evers, to fill Duffy’s seat. Duffy’s district is heavily red; President Donald Trump won it by 21 points in 2016.
