CUPERTINO, California, October 26, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – A pro-life tech pioneer is starting a petition drive to pressure one of the largest computer companies in the world into reinstating its mobile app.

Human Coalition (HC) created a mobile app in 2013 that sends pro-life prayer alerts to help women considering abortion to choose life. The anonymous alerts are in real time, based on contacts made at HC’s women centers and connected crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs).

The pro-life mobile app was available for Android devices in the Google Play Store (with a near five-star rating) and for iOS in the Apple App Store. But then abortion activists launched an aggressive defamatory campaign targeted specifically against HC.

HC was accused of violating privacy, and even went so far as to include specific protests against HC in the Netroots Nations conference, sponsored in part by Google and Facebook.

As a result, according to HC, the app was abruptly withdrawn by Apple. The tech giant said HC’s mobile app did not meet their standards, but HC demonstrated that in fact their product exceeded Apple’s requirements.

HC argued that Apple simply pulled the app because it was politically incorrect.

Tech observers note that decision-making as to what apps are acceptable and what are not is somewhat subjective.

“Apple seems to have no hard-and-fast rules that govern exactly what is and isn’t permissible in the App Store,” Luke Dormehl at Cult of Mac said. “As a result, the company and its developers run into these sorts of problems every so often.”

HC appealed the decision to no avail and so it decided to take its case to the court of public opinion.

“Communications with Apple has yielded no answers,” the organization’s website explained. “Therefore, we must continue to pressure Apple so we can ultimately reinstate our pro-life app.”

HC debuted an online petition for pro-lifers to pressure Apple into relisting its app.

“Tell Apple to reinstate the Human Coalition app,” the petition website says. “After four years and thousands of downloads, Apple removed Human Coalition’s pro-life prayer app without warning.”

“Corporations are cowards who would sooner bend to the whims of political activist groups than stand on the principle of free speech, and their self-professed love of diversity,” the Red State’s Brandon Morse commented.

HC counsel Colin LeCroy says the uniqueness of HC’s ministry is they seek to reach women who have decided to abort their baby.

“The average crisis pregnancy center sees about 239 abortion-vulnerable women per year, only 22 of whom are said to be abortion-minded,” LeCroy said. “An average Human Coalition care center will see 563 women, 542 of whom stated that they planned to get an abortion.”

“For every 100 women who are at risk of aborting, only three percent talk to a pro-life agency,” HC co-founder and president Brian Fisher said.

HC uses a data-driven strategy to maximize its effectiveness in reaching abortion-minded women. In the words of the Washington Times’ Bradford Richardson, Human Coalition “approaches abortion counseling the way the general manager in ‘Moneyball’ approached building his baseball team’s roster.”

Regional clinic director Lori Szala said many women decide to abort in desperation because of circumstances, relationship pressure, or financial hardship. A rushed decision then haunts them for life.

“It used to be believed that all we had to do was tell the mother she had a child growing inside of her, and that if she knew it was a baby, she’d choose life,” Fisher said. “That’s not true anymore. The overwhelming number of clients know they have a baby. They call it a baby. But the child’s life is still worth less than whatever their circumstances are.”

HC seeks to calm the woman and get her to think through her choices. HC connects women with job opportunities, housing openings, and state assistance. With many women, transportation is a problem, so HC offers rides or at least to pay for gas.

“Care Coordinators” stay connected with them throughout, help them fill out forms, and provide support. If they can help relieve some of her stress, she will be more likely to give birth to her baby.

If she is open, HC connects her to a local church community, where she is mentored, loved, and supported.

If HC can help the woman get this far, 70 percent wind up giving life to their child – even though at initial contact they were determinedly seeking an abortion.

As a result, lives are changed for both mother and child.

HC also seeks to bring the father into the picture with male counselors. “When the father is present, the child has a much better chance of being rescued from abortion,” Szala said.

HC also looks for opportunities to share good news. “We ask about their faith background,” Szala said, noting that the topic on an initial questionnaire can lead to a spiritual conversation later. “We really allow the Holy Spirit to lead in these areas.”

“Our goal is to first work on the pregnancy decision,” Szala delineated. “Then, through the building of the relationship during multiple visits, begin the process of sharing who Jesus is.”

Using their proven strategy, Human Coalition has rescued 5,922 children from abortion.

HC keeps loving contact even with those who chose to abort their baby, offering services, counseling, and community connections.
