NEW YORK, March 9, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pro-life organizations in the U.S. and Canada are calling for all Christians to join in praying for abortionists to stop performing abortions, as U.S. activists proclaim March 10 to be “National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers.”
Vicki Saporta, president and CEO of the National Abortion Federation, posted a notice March 2 on the Federation Blog encouraging women to show their support for abortionists by signing NAF’s petition proclaiming abortionists as “heroes.”
In response, Priests for Life declared March 9 a Day of Invitation to Abortion Providers, “an invitation to repentance and to the healing grace of the Lord,” said Fr. Frank Pavone, director of the organization.
“It is precisely because we appreciate these people that we want to free them from the misery of being an abortionist.”
In observance of the day, pro-life supporters are asked to pray for the conversion of all abortionists, to read the testimonies of former abortion providers, and to write a letter to their local newspaper quoting material from the testimonies and inviting abortionists to conversion.
“This may be surprising to people on both sides of the abortion controversy, but studies of abortionists, as well as the pastoral experience we have at Priests for Life in working with those in the industry and those who have come out of it confirm that abortionists tend to hate what they are doing, and feel that they are doing society’s dirty work,” Fr. Pavone said.
Priests for Life encourages Christians of every denomination to participate in saying a daily prayer year round for an end to abortion and the rebuilding of a culture of life.
In Canada, Campaign Life Coalition is simultaneously urging Christians to join together in observing nine days of prayer, beginning March 10, for the conversion of notorious abortionist Dr. Henry Morgentaler. Morgentaler was born on March 19.
“March 19th is the feast of St. Joseph, our Lord’s foster father,” CLC stated, announcing the prayer effort. “It is also Morgentaler’s birthday. We are hoping if we storm heaven with the help of St. Joseph, God will convert Morgentaler.”
