DUBLIN, June 17, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pro-life crusader and Member of European Parliament for Ireland, Dana Rosemary Scallon, lost her seat in Monday’s European Union elections.  However, Family and Life, a pro-life group in Ireland, report that three other pro-life candidates – Gay Mitchell, Kathy Sinnott and Marian Harkin – were elected from Ireland to the European Parliament.  Dana attributes her defeat to unexpected support for the first-ever Sinn Féin candidate, as well as to competition from fellow Independent Marion Harkin. “The size of the Sinn Fein vote was unexpected – it’s certainly been a surprise – but considering the odds I am delighted with the support I received,” she told Ireland’s Breaking News.  Dana, famous as a singer, radio and television personality in Ireland, became the MEP for the Constituency of Connacht-Ulster, Ireland, in July of 1999. She has fought tirelessly for the pro-life cause, opposing abortion legislation by the European Union on many fronts.  Read the related LifeSiteNews.com reports:  Dana Warns E.U.
