ST. LOUIS, June 6, 2013 (National Right to Life News) – Pro-life State Rep. Jason Smith (R) will be the new United States Representative from Missouri’s 8th congressional district after winning a special election held Tuesday. He replaces Jo Ann Emerson who resigned earlier this year to become president and CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

Smith was strongly supported by the Missouri Right to Life Federal Political Action Committee, the National Right to Life Political Action Committee, and the National Right to Life Victory Fund.

At 32, Smith will become one of the youngest members of Congress. For the past seven years Smith served in the state House, rising to become the Speaker pro tem, the No. 2 ranking official.

Missouri Right to Life said of Smith, “He has consistently affirmed life in his voting record and has a solid commitment to helping the unborn, their mothers, and their families. Protecting the sanctity of life is not just a political position to Jason; it’s part of his core values.”
