WASHINGTON, D.C., July 14, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – In the wake of an undercover video exposing Planned Parenthood harvesting and selling aborted babies' organs, leaders of the conservative and pro-life movement have a clear message for Congress: Defund Planned Parenthood or be considered complicit in its crimes.
“The Republican-controlled Congress must defund Planned Parenthood now. Immediately,” said Brent Bozell, head of the conservative organization ForAmerica. The footage, he said, “compels Congress to recognize it has been funding a 21st century Josef Mengele.”
“Anyone or either party who plays politics with this ghastly, inhuman behavior, or fails to exercise his/her responsibility to end taxpayer funding of it, should be condemned as participatory in it,” he added.
Republican leaders in both houses of Congress have been skittish about confronting the White House after losing a face-off over raising the debt ceiling. But Bozell said public sentiment would be with them if they pulled out all the stops this time.
“Let President Obama veto the budget over this. It will crush his presidency, and end this ghoulish practice for once and for all,” he said.
Dozens of organizations agreed.
Lila Rose of Live Action, which honed the use of undercover investigations to expose abortionists nationwide, said, “Congress must take immediate action to stop all taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood and end the bankrolling of this horrific human rights abuser.”
Penny Nance, Concerned Women for America CEO and president, said the video proves there are “no depths to which this organization [Planned Parenthood] won't stoop for money.”
“When will the federal government wake up and follow the lead of the 10 courageous governors who have cut funding to Planned Parenthood?” she asked. “It's time for Congress to say 'Enough!' If Planned Parenthood provides any worthy services, then they should have no problem raising funds like the thousands of other charities around this nation.”
Others emphasized that this is not the first sting to ensnare Planned Parenthood or expose the dubious legality of its actions.
“The U.S. government has given Planned Parenthood pass after pass despite many revelations of its malfeasance and corruption, keeping hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars flowing to this sick and very profitable ‘non-profit’ business,” Father Shenan J. Boquet, the president of Human Life International, said. “We can only pray that this most recent revelation will wake up what remains of the consciences of our leaders in Washington, leading to a massive investigation of this evil abortion business and the prosecution of all who have let this evil persist.”
Others said the nation's leading abortion provider was at least as threatening as the Confederate flag.
“Planned Parenthood was founded by a racist and KKK supporter who wanted to reduce the number of African-Americans and other persons of color,” said Rev. Pat Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition. “Our hope and prayer is that Congress will move quickly to defund Planned Parenthood and it will end up on the scrapheap of history like slavery and segregation.”
Congress attempted to defund Planned Parenthood in the past, a move that led to a claim that Republicans engaged in a “war on women.”
Now, pro-life advocates say Congress should go further, passing a ban on late-term abortions, which provide the organs the abortion providers peddle.
“Planned Parenthood's political arm is a major backer of many Democratic members of Congress,” National Right to Life President Carol Tobias said. “Lawmakers who have enjoyed Planned Parenthood's backing should now be asked whether they will continue to oppose pending legislation to restrict the abortion of pain-capable unborn children after 20 weeks fetal age, as Planned Parenthood insists – and if so, whether they are motivated in any degree by a desire to preserve Planned Parenthood's ability to deliver intact, well-developed baby body parts to order.”

The momentum of the video may match the emphasis the pro-life movement got when the trial of Kermit Gosnell, eventually, broke through the mainstream media filter.
Mark Harrington, the national director of Created Equal, based in Ohio, said, “These grisly revelations of Planned Parenthood's baby parts business has made ending their organization's tax funding even more urgent.”
“As if it isn't enough that Planned Parenthood has killed millions of my generation, imagine my heartbreak when I found out they sold aborted baby body parts like a custom order from a meat market,” said Ashley Baldwin, spokeswoman for the youth-oriented pro-life group Survivors. “It is now time for Congress to defund Planned Parenthood.”
