WASHINGTON, September 25, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In a well-orchestrated propaganda campaign, Planned Parenthood Federation of America has issued a “report” under the name “Global Gag Rule Impact Project” and funded by five closely related abortion promoting organizations. Planned Parenthood and the four other groups have issued the same press releases implying that women are being denied legitimate medical services because of what is referred to as the “Global Gag Rule” that restricts tax funding to groups committing or promoting abortion in developing countries.  The Planned Parenthood release states, “the study documents the effects of the global gag rule in Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, and Romania. Because of the Gag Rule, many family planning organizations have been cut off from supplies of USAID contraceptives, including condoms. Public health evidence shows that lack of contraception leads to an increase in unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortion.”

Samantha Singson, Campaign Life Coalition’s International Affairs Officer who heads the organization’s communications at the United Nations, said that this is a common ploy by abortion lobbyists to gain legitimacy and public sympathy. “Planned Parenthood has a long history of cooking up ‘urgent’ reports by ‘experts’ that turn out, on closer examination, to be propaganda they themselves have either written or commissioned from one of their own organizations and which usually contain false or greatly exaggerated claims. The trouble is that the media treats these as genuinely objective reports.”

Another Campaign Life Coalition representative in Toronto stated that, “if anything, Planned Parenthood policies have massively increased the world-wide incidence of so-called ‘unwanted’ pregnancies, abortions and sexually transmitted diseases. One simple way to substantially reduce these problems is to finally cut-off Planned Parenthood and its allies from all public funding.”

As proof of Singson’s comment, the international newswire service Reuters carried a story that accepted the report’s claims uncritically citing only a token statement from a Whitehouse spokesman offering an opposing view in a single line at the end.  See the Reuters coverage and the biased ‘report’:  https://reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=healthNews&storyID=3502348 See another propaganda piece in the London Guardian https://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1049186,00.html https://64.224.182.238/globalgagrule/
