EDMONTON, AB, Feb 28 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Private Members bill in the Alberta Legislature defining marriage as exclusively the union between a man and a woman received tacit approval last Wednesday passing second reading with a vote of 40-11. The Marriage Amendment Act, introduced by Progressive Conservative MLA Victor Doerksen, pledges to use the provincial “notwithstanding clause” to protect the traditional definition of marriage from court ordered revision.

In related news, Focus on the Family Canada has received approval to appear before the Commons Justice Committee in regards to Bill C-23, the federal omnibus same-sex benefits legislation. Public Policy Director Jim Sclater said that Focus’ presentation has been confirmed for 9 a.m. EST Thursday, March 2.
