VANCOUVER, September 7, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Former British Columbia NDP politician and homosexual activist Svend Robinson applied today to seek re-admittance to the B.C. provincial Law Society.
Robinson also learned today that the province is not going to appeal the conditional sentence handed to him for his confessed theft of a $64,500 “bauble,” as described by B.C. Provincial Court Judge Ron Fratkin. The conditional sentence handed by Judge Fratkin early in August means Robinson does not serve any jail time, nor does he have a criminal record. It has been 25 years since Robinson left his law practice of two years to enter federal politics.
A credentials committee must first review Robinson’s application, according to society spokesman Brad Daisley. “The credentials committee must be satisfied that the person is of good character and repute, and is fit to become a barrister and solicitor,” Daisley told CBC news. “The credentials committee also has the power to determine what conditions an applicant must meet to return to the practice of law.”
When a decision will be final is not known, Daisley said. Read related LifeSiteNews.com coverage: Why did Deputy Leader of Conservatives Write Letter Supporting Robinson in Theft Trial? https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2004/aug/04080904.html tv
