TROIS-RIVIÈRES, September 17, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com)  The Quebec Bishops Conference (AEQ) released a message on late-term abortions yesterday during their plenary session which commenced September 14 and concluded today.  After mentioning the fact that the Quebec Health Ministry has confirmed that it allows and publicly funds late term abortions even after 24 weeks gestation, the bishops noted that they “wanted to make known our disagreement.”  They noted that while Canada with its biotechnology laws affords at least some protection to the human embryo, abortion is permitted at any time during pregnancy.  The AEQ encouraged alternatives to abortion such as adoption, counseling services, and housing for pregnant mothers.  They encouraged education on the value and meaning of life.  Concluding the brief, surprisingly weak statement, the Quebec bishops asked, “Why is it so difficult in our society to engage in public dialogue on respect for life without being seen as a reactionary?” They added, “However, the climate of violence which exists in the world, as well as on our premises, encourages us all to work to prevent the loss of respect for human life.”  See the full statement (in French) at:  https://www.eveques.qc.ca/index.php
