QUEBEC, January 13, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Campaign Life Quebec (Campagne Québec-Vie) announced Monday that they are organizing a “Christian March” (“La Marche chrétienne”) in June to assemble Christians of different religious denominations to promote the culture of life and petition the government for laws to protect against the culture of death.
According to CQV, the purpose of the event is to show that Christians are entitled to occupy public space, to affirm the Christian values and virtues on which Quebec’s identity was founded, and to pray and demonstrate for solidarity among the Christians of Quebec.
In an interview with LifeSiteNews, Georges Buscemi, president of CQV, said the march is of utmost importance for Quebec, because it is a reaction against the political agenda of “de-Christianization” of Quebec culture. Buscemi called the march an “enough is enough parade.”
In the last fifty years, beginning with the removal of education from the hands of the church into the hands of the state, and then the “de-confessionalization” and the removal of both Protestant and Catholic catechism from the schools, the state has increasingly marginalized religion. Just this past December, an announcement was made stating that religious teaching would no longer be tolerated in daycares.
“All I can conclude is that the state has an agenda of deprogramming everybody and formatting and creating the new citizen, the new socialist kind of citizen,” Buscemi stated. “We are not giving the state this mandate! It is time to clean up the state because it is doing things we didn’t ask it to [do].”
“No political party can heal Quebec, no idol, no this-worldly solution is going to work,” said Buscemi. “Only through a return to Christian values will Quebec find the energy and sense of meaning it needs to go forward.”
The hope is that the march will support “mutual recognition,” “fortification,” and “networking” for the groups involved, as well as send a message to the political class that they “still have to take into account the faithful Christian demographic when they do their political calculations.”
“The state is there to serve people and families and not the other way around,” Buscemi concluded.
“La Marche chrétienne” is expected to draw between 2,000 and 5,000 participants of many religious denominations. Among the organizers are the Association of Catholic Parents of Quebec, the Association of the Coptic Orthodox Community of Greater Montreal, the Bible Speaks Christian Assembly, and Campagne Québec-Vie.
“All Christians are invited. We’re hoping to send a strong message to all Quebecers that Christian values are what made Quebec great and what can make Quebec great in the future!”
The march will take place June 4, 2011 in Quebec. Assembly will be at 1:00pm at the Parc de l’Amérique Française on Boul. René Lévesque. Crowds will be leaving the park at 2:00pm and walking to the parliament of Quebec.
