June 17, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – REAL Women of Canada has sent a letter of complaint to the CRTC which states that the CBC failed to provide fair coverage to the March for Life in Ottawa last May. The event was by far the largest in the history of the event, with over 12,000 participants.
The letter, which comes on the heels of Campaign Life Coalition's official complaint, calls into question the CBC's neutrality, as per the CRTC's guidelines, in reporting on the pro-life event.
“The purpose of the CBC is to reflect the views and aspirations of Canadians by providing balance and fairness in reporting Canadian's attitudes and perspectives,” the letter states. Instead, it charges, “the CBC has become a divisive and controversial network which has massively failed to carry out its mandate.”
The letter from REAL Women continues, saying that “by the CBC's failure to acknowledge the views of a significant number of Canadians … the CBC has insulted the intelligence and dignity of all Canadians who deserve the facts.”
The CBC's continual refusal to provide balance and fairness in broadcasting,” the letter says, “is the reason this network has so little credibility and respect among thoughtful Canadians.” The CBC “has become a source of indoctrination for the left-of-centre political and social agenda.”
“The CBC does not provide a balance in its programming and, instead, promotes a perspective to the left of the fiscal and social perspective of most Canadians. The CRTC must take action on the failure of the CBC to fulfill its responsibilities,” the letter says.
