OTTAWA, April 10, 2002 (LSN.ca) – In a face-to-face meeting with Canadian Alliance leader Stephen Harper yesterday, Progressive Conservative leader Joe Clark rejected an offer to form a “full coalition” in the House of Commons and run just one conservative candidate in each riding in the next federal election. After the failed bid for unity, five of the seven Alliance rebels who had formed the Democratic Representative Caucus have asked to rejoin the Alliance.
Deborah Grey, Chuck Strahl, Grant McNally, Val Meredith and Jay Hill said they are asking to return to the Canadian Alliance and Harper has indicated that they will be welcomed back. Only MPs Jim Pankiw and Inky Mark remain in the DRC-Tory coalition with Pankiw expected to rejoin the Alliance and Mark unsure of joining the Tories.
