(LifeSiteNews) — Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate Tim Walz is earning the praise of left-wing Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

Omar, who represents Minnesota and is a member of the socialist “Squad” along with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, said she hopes her home state governor will be the next vice president.

Omar specifically praised Governor Walz’ record on legalizing pot and making abortion legal through all nine months of pregnancy.

“Our North Star state Governor has signed universal school meals, paid family and sick leave, marijuana legalization, and protections for reproductive rights into law,” Omar wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. “Bringing Minnesota nice to the ticket.”

Omar is just the latest far-left politician to back Walz. Self-declared socialist Senator Bernie Sanders pushed the Harris campaign to select Walz, as reported by The Hill prior to his official selection.

As governor, Walz signed into law radical pro-abortion and pro-LGBT legislation, as previously reported by LifeSiteNews.

In early 2023, the second-term governor signed into law the so-called Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act which asserted a woman’s “fundamental right” to “continue the pregnancy and give birth, or obtain an abortion, and to make autonomous decisions about how to exercise this fundamental right.”

The legislation “would mean it’s legal for any baby to be aborted, for any reason and at any time up to birth,” according to Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life co-executive director Cathy Blaeser. “The absolutist extremism of this bill would put Minnesota in the company of just a handful of countries worldwide, among them China and North Korea. Mothers and babies deserve a far more humane and compassionate approach.”

Under the law, “a school counselor can take a student to an abortion clinic without their parents’ knowledge,” Tim Miller, executive director of Pro-Life Action Ministries Action, also said.

A video now making the rounds shows Walz boasting about his support for abortion, even joking that Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi asked him to be more moderate on the killing of innocent preborn babies.

“My record is so pro-choice Nancy Pelosi asked me if I should tone it down. I stand with Planned Parenthood and we won,” Walz, a former congressman, said during a speech in 2018.

While in Congress, Walz apologized for accidentally voting in favor of a bill to “protect babies who survive botched abortions,” the Daily Wire reported. “I meant to vote NO, as I did on an identical bill last Congress,” he said in 2018. “My apologies for the confusion. I’ll keep fighting for women’s access to health care.”

Walz would later show his commitment to opposing any protections for babies who survive abortions by signing legislation that repealed the state’s “Born Alive Infant Protection Act.”

The 2023 law also repealed the Positive Alternatives Act which “provided practical assistance and support for tens of thousands of pregnant women and new mothers in communities across Minnesota,” according to Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life.

Even prior to the repeal of the law, babies who survived abortions in Minnesota were left to die. “Data from the Minnesota Department of Health indicate that since Governor Walz was inaugurated in 2019, eight babies survived abortion attempts in Minnesota,” Michael New wrote recently at National Review. “On five occasions, no measures were taken to preserve life. On three occasions, only comfort care was provided. Tragically, all of these babies died.”

The leftist governor also “signed an executive order … making the North Star State a sanctuary for gender transitions, including for residents of other states with more conservative laws,” LifeSiteNews reported in 2023.

The left-wing Associated Press reported in 2023 that Minnesota had, with Washington, become “trans refuges.”

The state also ran a “snitch line” to report church gatherings and other COVID lockdown violations, as recently reported by LifeSiteNews.

Alpha News reported that someone turned in a Lutheran church for holding services and serving meals, as part of the thousands of reports submitted.

Walz also offered teens a chance to win $100,000 if they took the abortion-tainted COVID jab.
