October 1, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Missouri’s U.S. Senate hopeful Todd Akin confirmed Friday that he was once arrested for his involvement in a peaceful process outside an abortion clinic.
In a video posted to Youtube by RightWingWatch last week, Akin describes to an audience at a meeting in 2011 how he and a group of other pro-life advocates decided they had to take seriously the words from the bible, “rescue the innocent that is being led to slaughter.”
“So a bunch of us sat in front of these doors and the police gave us a ride to the free hotel for a while and you know how it goes,” said Akin, who jokingly asked his listeners not to “tell anybody I’m a jail bird.”
When asked about the incident at a press conference in Kansas City this past Friday, Akin said, “As I’ve made very clear I don’t apologize for being pro-life. I stand up for the things I believe in.”

Joe Scheidler, founder and National Director of the Pro-life Action League, who has been arrested about a dozen times for his pro-life activism, said he admires Akin for his consistent pro-life stance.
“Todd Akin is a true pro-lifer,” Scheidler told LifeSiteNews.com. “He doesn’t make exceptions. Most pro-lifers would be proud of him for this.”
According to Akin’s camp, more information about the arrest will be released soon.
