WASHINGTON, March 3, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In the midst of an ongoing strategy by senior Democrats to block and delay President Bush’s judicial nominees, Republicans in the Senate judiciary committee managed to pass three such appointments—Jay Bybee, Deborah Cook and John Roberts—through to the Senate floor last week.  “We’re not going to have filibusters in committee,” said Sen. Orrin Hatch, emerging from a sharp exchange with Sen. Edward Kennedy, one of the ringleaders of the Democratic campaign to block all Bush nominees.  For three weeks, Democrats have blocked a confirmation vote on the nomination of Miguel Estrada – Bush’s choice for the first Hispanic judge on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Senate Republicans lack the 60 votes in the 100-member chamber to force a vote on Estrada, and must therefore work through the more cumbersome committee process with Democratic cooperation.  For newswire coverage:  https://library.northernlight.com/ED20030227500000054.html?cb=0&dx=1006&sc=0#doc   For additional coverage:  https://www.washtimes.com/national/20030226-378449.htm and https://www.washtimes.com/national/20030227-601821.htm   For related LifeSite coverage:  BUSH TOLD TO BEWARE OF PRO-ABORTION DEMOCRAT STRATEGY https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2003/feb/03022705.html
