JEFFERSON CITY May 28, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A new Missouri law required women seeking abortions to wait 24 hours in a “cooling off” period. The law enacted in September is one of 21 similar state laws that impose penalties of up to $1000 on doctors who commit abortions without the waiting period. On October 10, Judge Scott O. Wright issued a temporary restraining order upon Planned Parenthood’s allegations that the law was unconstitutional. On Thursday, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis decided upon an appeal by Attorney General Jay Nixon.  Sam Lee, speaking for Campaign Life Missouri, a pro-life political lobby, said, “This is good news for the women and their unborn children of Missouri.” The legal battle is not over yet however; Planned Parenthood is considering options including a US Supreme Court challenge.
